Senior
Studio Contract
My work for the senior thesis will consist of several
works, possibly 4 or 5 pieces, to make up a full body of work. The work will
include 3D modeling, paper sculpture, and traditional 2D drawing. These three
components will comprise the total of each of the 4 or 5 pieces, and when put
all together, will be the finished work.
The “theme” of my project is based around culture, and
equality. Basically how all the different people and cultures around the world
all have the same essential qualities, and how we as humans are almost
identical. (Granted, there are a few odd ones in the group).
The formal aesthetics for this project will be the
formation of paper masks, all formed from the same 3D model, and molded with
slightly different features. I plan on these masks being all black and white,
with possible varying gradients, along with different cultural designs to
emphasis the concept. Having said this, I plan on driving some of my own
thoughts and ideas into these designs, to better emphasis their equality.
The final format will be 4 or 5, head sized paper
sculpted masks. For now, I will say 4 masks, roughly 12in tall and 8in wide, for
a total of 12in high, and about 38in wide (48in wide with 5 masks). These masks
will be mounted on to the surface of a wall.
Side Note: I should not
need any equipment that I do not already have.

Update 9/4
Been thinking about how i want to go about designing my final project. I have the concepts down, but not sure how i want to go about placing them on. might have to do some research on that.

Artist
Summary
The
areas of digital art in which I excel the most at and more importantly have the
most fun with is the actual modeling of the object or character. I do find
myself drawing a large majority of the time as well, which contributes to my
modeling in many ways. I don’t believe that I have a specific theme or idea
that I focus on, but when it comes to drawing I find myself sticking to a
specific style, at least as of late. This style focuses heavily on high
contrast and very stylized images. When I get in the “zone” I could draw or
work on a model all day without stopping. Music also has a very big impact on
my work, and can sometimes take me in a different direction with my work. An
artist that I find myself searching a lot is the work of John Howe. His work on
J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings has inspired me to take my work to the next
level and keeps my striving to be great.
